WhatsApp to Get Touch ID Support, Dark Mode, Expanded Group Participant Limit Soon: Report

WhatsApp is reportedly adding a bunch of new features to enhance user experience. The new feature list includes a dark mode, Touch ID support for iPhone, polls in groups, and the ability to add as many as 4,096 participants in a group. These new changes are expected to roll out to WhatsApp for iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone devices in the coming days. Last week, WhatsApp for Android received a new beta version that added a feature to notify contacts on shifting to a new number.

Folks at WABetaInfo reveal that WhatsApp is adding the new features for all iOS, Android, and Windows Phone users. Among other new features, the addition of Touch ID support seems to be of great help if you're looking for a way to secure your messages on the instant messaging app. There are also features to let you pin a message on top and add a username to hide your phone number. Similarly, the WhatsApp team has reportedly expanded the previous 256 group participant limit to 4,096. There is also a dedicated WhatsApp for Apple Watch version that was yet to reach Apple App Store at the time of filing this story.

Interestingly, unlike the changes reported by WABetaInfo, the App Store listing of WhatsApp for iPhone shows that the app has received an update with a couple of new changes. The app now lets you see recent status updates in the WhatsApp widget in your iPhone's Today View. The update also enhances the voice messaging feature that will now continue to play your voice messages if you switch to another app or turn your screen off. You can avail the changes by downloading the updated (v2.18.40) WhatsApp for iPhone. The app works with devices running iOS 7.0 and later.
