VIRTUAL REALITY
what is virtual reality ?
VR refers to computer stimulated software which replicates the realistic three dimensional environment (such as physical objects, sound, interact with objects, sensing etc) by using specialized displays to view them and electronic controllers to interact with them. In simple "A person can view and interact with an artificial world".
Biography of VR :
In 1950's, virtual reality concept was initiated by Stanley G. Weinbaum's in his short story. In 1960-1990 there is great improvement in virtual reality. Many scientists worked in the developement of virtual reality to the world.
In 1991, Sega announced the Sega VR headset for arcade games, In 1999, entrepreneur Philip Rosedale formed Linden Lab with an initial focus on the development of hardware that would enable computer users to be fully immersed in a 360 degree virtual reality experience.
Google introduced Street View, a service that shows panoramic views of an increasing number of worldwide positions such as roads, indoor buildings and rural areas. It also features a stereoscopic 3D mode, introduced in 2010 & Palmer Luckey, who later went on to found Oculus VR, designed the first prototype of the Oculus Rift. This prototype, built on a shell of another virtual reality headset, was only capable of rotational tracking.
In 2014 facebook announced 360 degree videos, sony announced play station vr and htc announced HTC vive and later years sony launched playstation vr with ps4 pro.now a days VR can used with our smartphone.
Benefits of VR :
Education :
VR can model the world in an incredibly visual way. And, it can also allow those worlds to be expanded and shrunk, played with and entered. Students could take a class trip to ancient Rome, or try an open-heart surgery without any risks: VR simulations can offer practice runs at techniques, designs and ideas. VR can simulate the whole solar system in classroom
Training :
VR helps in military training by simulating a 3D environment of war in closed room so that solider can train without loss of human's life & money
Gaming :
Obviously, video games are one of the main applications for virtual reality as of today. But VR will give game designers the freedom to take games to incredible new places. They can also find new audiences now that players can just reach out and touch things, and turn their head to look, instead of mastering a complex controller covered with joysticks and buttons.
Traveling & Exploration :
Virtual tourism is the next best thing to being there. You could visit Paris, Mars, or the bottom of the ocean & world wonders like Taj Mahal or Volcanic eruption. Whether you’re watching a 360-degree video someone shot, or a computationally generated 3D simulation, you can shut out the real world and replace it with your destination of choice. One day, you may be able to explore your own memories as well as imagine recording them with a 360-degree camera, then looking around to see what you missed in the moment.
At the year of 2017 there should be a huge impact of VR in our life, may be at the year of 2020, even schooling will be done by using VR in developed countries
